Michigan Tech University on July 30 unveiled its new $25 million Great Lakes Research Center. The opening of this facility is great news for the university and the Great Lakes.
The Great Lakes are facing a myriad of serious threats, from invasive species to climate change. Michigan Tech joins the ranks of Michigan universities researching those problems and, hopefully, finding some solutions.
It’s fitting that Michigan Tech has a Great Lakes Research Center — it’s only a short boat ride from the campus to Lake Superior.
And it is particularly exciting that some of the region’s top Great Lakes scientists have joined Michigan Tech’s staff. All of this bodes well for Lake Superior and the other Great Lakes.
There can never be too many people tracking the health of these magnificent lakes. The Detroit News had a nice article on Michigan Tech’s new facility. Read it here.
